What type of therapy do you practice?
I practice integrative hypno-psychotherapy, and draw from a wide range of psychotherapy models and techniques, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), humanistic psychotherapy, existential psychotherapy, psychodynamic psychotherapy, Neuro-linguistic programming, and mindfulness. I take an evidence-based and solution-focussed approach. I tailor therapy to each client, and never use a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach.
I have undergone rigorous training with the National College of Hypnosis and Psychotherapy, and also with easibirthing®.
What can I expect in a therapy session?
- To be treated with compassion, kindness, understanding and warmth.
- To be listened to without judgement or criticism.
- To be treated as a unique individual.
- To agree your goals for therapy from the outset, and for progress to be regularly reviewed.
- To be empowered to find solutions to your problems.
- For therapy to go at your own pace.
- For your autonomy to be fully respected.
- That your therapy will be conducted ethically.
- For therapy to last only as long as you feel is necessary.
How many sessions will I need?
The piece of string question! The truth is there is no such thing as a typical case, as all clients are unique, but it is of course helpful to have a feel for how many sessions we may work together for.
For some people, only a very brief period of working together is required. Issues such as smoking cessation, phobias, fears and preparing for important events such as exams, visiting the dentist or giving a presentation can often be satisfactorily resolved within one to three sessions.
Six to ten sessions may be required for other issues, such as stress and anxiety, weight issues or problem eating, addiction, or physical health problems such as fertility issues, IBS, chronic pain, chronic fatigue, or menopausal symptoms. This gives time to explore and resolve the roots of the problem (if necessary), and embed new insights and behaviours, so that new neural pathways are formed to ensure lasting change.
I usually see clients weekly or fortnightly, generally at the same time each week.
For fertility in particular, clients sometimes wish to vary the frequency of sessions at certain times e.g. you may wish to meet weekly or fortnightly to begin with, but then want to schedule extra sessions/rearrange session times to fit around IVF procedures, such as egg collection and embryo transfer. You may feel you would like to meet twice-weekly during the two week wait after embryo transfer. I will work around you and your treatment schedule as far as possible.
For some the journey may take longer, and we will work together over a period of months, for those clients who wish to address long-standing/deep-rooted issues, or resolve a number of concerns. However, this is entirely up to the client, and I always aim to reach your goals for therapy in the shortest time that is realistically possible, so you are in control of how many times we meet.
Will what I tell you be kept confidential?
It is important that you feel safe in therapy, and are able to be open and frank, so that I can provide you with the very best service. Anything you tell me will be treated with confidence. There are very limited exemptions to this, which relate mainly to safeguarding of yourself or others. These limited circumstances will be made clear before therapy begins.
I comply with the requirements of the GDPR, and take the confidentiality of your personal details very seriously. I never sell contact details to any third party.

I need therapy, but can’t afford it. Can you help?
I believe passionately that everybody should be able to access good quality therapy that is affordable for them.
I am always mindful that therapy can be a considerable investment, and make sure the duration of therapy is not extended beyond what is required.
In addition, for those on a low income, I may be able to offer reduced fee sessions, subject to availability. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you would like to see if this is a possibility. I will do my best to work with you.
